Most Desires Aren’t Yours (And That’s the Point)
Instant gratification has undoubtedly become our baseline.
The scroll of feeds, social scripts, and having almost anything available at the touch of your fingertips leaves use craving things that don’t actually feel fulfilling.
We’ve been hijacked! Tempted to get that new phone when the one we have works perfectly fine, or eating that muffin cause you’re just bored and in proximity.
A desire detox is exactly what it sounds like: clearing out the clutter of wants that are not ours or in alignment.
Not the “shoulds” society is telling us, or even the parents we’ve been performing for approval from.
This detox is all about peeling the layers of the onion until you reach the cravings that truly matter.
The first step
Is getting honest about who you want to be.
Not the public version or even the aspirational Pinterest board version (hello myself) but the version of yourself that feels alive, unafraid and unapologetically aligned.
Who do you want to be when no one’s watching? How do you want to feel in solitude?
The beautiful thing about this step is that you’ll get to repeat it as many times as you want, because you are allowed to change your mind!
And we’re actually supposed to do the hard pivots when we’re uncomfortable.
But it’s your intuition and deep knowing that’s needed here to guide you towards that next best feeling thing.
Clarity is everything here.
You can’t detox what you haven’t defined.
You can’t release what you haven’t named. You can’t course-correct if you don’t know the destination. You need to know what you don’t want AND what you do.
You’ll only be stalling the inevitable if you cannot get crystal clear.
Then the detox begins
And it will be uncomfortable.
Your psyche will go into protection mode, craving those old comforts, patterns and attachments.
They are gateways, inviting you to choose between habit or essence. This is where your resonance comes in.
That pull of “oh yes let me do this because she does”.
Desire is not just about pleasure, it is alignment.
And alignment takes noticing, which is intention.
You’ll have to notice when a thought, person, or habit triggers excitement, ease, joy, versus when it triggers familiarity, nostalgia, or obligation.
It is both subtle and radical: feeling the difference, choosing the aligned, and letting the rest fall away.
When done consistently, desire transforms .
And because you are actively grateful for all which you already have, you will begin to attract what resonates with your soul.
I’ve had positive, happy and momentous dreams come true when I got that clarity, and just be.
This isn’t a fast fix because we are always becoming.
But it is important to be, just as you are.
Life doesn’t happen to you, you make life happen! Don’t you forget.
Stay in your truth, you owe it to no one but yourself.
